” We Found a Friend ”

“My parents divorced, about five years ago. After, I finished my studies at Kent Community College.”

“I decided, to move out on my own. Mom was never home, she was either working, or out with her friends.”

“Most of my friends,where,I grew-up here,in Newlines,Pennsylvania.”

“Either, moved away,or busy starting their own new life.”

“I don’t have any siblings, so this was,the right move for me.”

“I found a spacious apartment, in the town of Veer. Three miles from my hometown.

“Closer to where I’m employed…I work for….. ” Veer Utility Company”.

“Been their since 1990. That’s almost 4 years ago.”

“I do a lot of reading in my spare time. Which is mostly on the week-ends.

I’m single, and not in an relationship. I was seeing someone, while going to college. But,that didn’t have an happy ending.”

“I don’t like to go out by myself. It’s no fun going out to eat, or see a good movie, alone. Unless, of-course, it’s shopping. My co-workers,are either married,or older. With that said, my friendship, stay’s at work.”

“When I woke-up Saturday morning, after going to bed early. I was energized, for the day, after a hard working week. Sunlight flooded the bedroom. All last week, we had April showers.”

“I finished, my usual Saturday chores early. I decided to get dressed, eat lunch, then go outside, for a walk.”

“I’m going to wear my blue walking shorts, and white tee-shirt.

After I get dressed, I’ll called Lucy, maybe, she’ll walk with me.”

I searched in my mid-size, brown pocketbook,for my cell-phone.

“Their it is!”

I picked up the phone, and put in Lucy’s number. The phone rang three times, before she answered.

“Hi Lucy!”

“Hi Missy!” “I was getting ready to lay on the couch for a nap. Bruce was
up to his old shit last night!”

“What part doesn’t he understand?”

“I caught him red handed, with that blonde, hair bitch. He’s been calling me all night, apologizing, for his so called, one night stand.”

“I guess, he wants to come back?” I mumbled

“Yes!” “He thinks,I should welcome him back, with open arms. Because, he was drunk, he’s sorry!” “Screw him!!”

“Lucy, call me back, when you wake up. You’ll have a clearer head.”

“Who’s side are you on?” sigh Lucy

“Good Bye Lucy!”

Lucy and I have been friends, for a couple of years. We first met at a book store.
I was reaching for a book, on the top shelf. She was looking at the books,on the opposite side, of the bookshelf.

Just as I reached for a book, the book slipped out of my hand, and it rested on top of her head.
My brown eyes got as big as an almond, and I could feel heat, coming from my face.

Nevertheless,it startled Lucy, when the book landed on her head.

Then she started laughing so hard, she had tears rolling down her face.

I couldn’t apologize enough.

Lucy just gave me a hug,and laughed. “Shit happens!”

We been good friends, ever since.

We have a lot in common, we are both in our late twenties ,5’5″ tall, shoulder length light brown hair, and single.

I don’t want to tell you, but we aren’t slender, like the models are. We’re more on the chunky side.

Don’t tell Lucy, but she is a little chunkier than me. I love her just the same.

She is like a sister, I never had.

On the other hand,Lucy,has a live-in boyfriend.

Bruce. 6’1″ tall, husky, with short curly dark brown hair, green eyes, and a sloping nose. As you already know,he likes to drink, and make a ass,out of himself.

I decided to take a walk anyway. Let Lucy and Bruce straighten their problem out.
The sun was still shinning, there was a little breeze blowing. Not bad for being in the late fifties.

After walking maybe one mile, I was ready to start back home. The sky was starting to get black, and it looked like it was going to pour again.

Bernie and Buttons was playing in the dog park.

“Look up at the sky,Bernie said, Buttons,it looks like it’s going to rain again.”

“Oh, not again!” “I’m finally dry, from the last rain.” mumbled Buttons

“Let’s make a run for it! Buttons.

Just as it started raining, Bernie grab Buttons by his arm. He couldn’t see in front of him, on account of the pouring rain. Just as he reached the opening in the park. Somebody reached down, and picked him,and Buttons up.

“You poor baby!” said Missy

“Let me get us both to a dry place. Until it slows down.” sighed Missy

“There’s a bus station across the street, I’m gonna make a run for it.”

She held Bernie close to her,and Bernie was just wagging his tail.

Buttons was whispering. “Help,Help!”

Missy and Bernie were both drenched. So was poor Buttons.

Missy put Bernie down, once they arrived at the bus station.

“Give me that bear you have in your mouth”. said Missy

Bernie started to growl at her.

“Okay boy!” as she jumped back.

“You can keep your toy.”

“You stay! I’m going into the station, and ask when the next next bus is due, then I’ll take you to my place. Because your wandering by yourself, and I don’t want you to get run over by a car. “Okay you poor dog.”

She left me and Buttons,in a little hallway, and shut the door.

While Missy was going……

“She sounds like she nice, Buttons….. Look the rain has slowed down,do you want to make a run for it,or stay with this human?”

“She doesn’t like me,she wants to throw me away, like that other person.”

“We don’t have any place to go right now,and she seems like she’s nice.

I’ll make a deal with you…we’ll go with her, but,if she treats us mean later,we’ll get away. I promise,I won’t let her throw you away.”

“Alright Bernie!” I don’t like it, but I’ll give it a try.”

“Here she comes, remember, we don’t talk, when she’s around, deal?”

burnieandbuttons“Shhh!” “Deal!”

“Kindness”

I had to take the bus this morning,my Chevy SUV broke down yesterday. So, I put it in the shop to get fixed. I’m no fan of the buses, but you have to, what you have to do.

I’m on my way to the toy store in town. I’m going to buy a birthday present for little Timmy, who lives next door to me. His birthday is tomorrow, he’ll be seven years old.

His mother Joan, told me he likes to play boardgames….especially Monopoly. More than likely, I’ll find something for him.

As the bus pulled and stopped in front of the toy store,it started to rain. I waited for the door to open, to get off the bus, then my foot slipped getting off.
I fell right in the arms of this handsome guy. I felt so embarrassed.
The bus driver yelled,”Lady are you all right?”

“Yes,I’m fine!”

I know my face was red, because it felt warm….. But I was okay.

The fellow was still holding me.He then left me go,and said,”That’s a close one.”

“Thank you so much!” “I better watch where I’m walking next time.”

It starting to pour and I said, “I better get going.”

“My name is Jeff, you didn’t tell me your name.”

“Nice to meet you Jeff, lets go under the awning next to the post office.
Both of us ran laughing under the awning.

“I chose a nasty day to shop,I chuckled.”

“Jeff my name is Darcy. I’m on my way to the toy store,to buy a gift for my next door neighbor.”

“That’s nice!” he looked at his watch, “I have to get to work, here is my cellphone number.” “Call me”

After he left,I ran into the toy store. I ask the store clerk, where the board games were. She said,”In aisle four.”

I found the monopoly game, purchase it,the cashier was nice enough to wrap it for me.
When I went back outside, the sun was shining. “This is April weather.” I mumbled.

I decided to stop at the library,to see if I could find a good book. This was Saturday,I didn’t have anything plan. My girlfriend Stacy, ask me if I wanted to go down to the shore, this weekend. But I told her my vehicle was in shop…I had to hold on to my money.

I found two romance novels, after staying in the library for a couple of hours. I was ready to take the bus back home.

When I got back home,I knock on Joan door. Timmy answered the door, and I handed him his gift. He gave me a big hug,and thanked me. It made me feel so good.
The weekend went too fast, Monday morning came. Before I left to go to work, there was a knock at my door. It was the man from the auto shop.
I opened the door, and he handed me my key.

“You had a loose wire,I just connected it,and it’s fine to drive.”

“There is no charge,for this.”

“Thank you so much,I won’t forget you.”

“Have a great day Darcy.”

“I was elated,he saved me a lot of money. My day was great for the rest of the day!”

After I arrived home from work,my cellphone rang.

It was Joan,”Hi Darcy,I want to thank you for making Timmy so happy. He couldn’t believe, you knew what he wanted for his birthday.

After he ate his dinner, and did his homework. Timmy took the game across the street to show his friend Ms. Hooks..She is a widow, and Timmy stops by to see her. They both like to play board games.”

“I’m so happy to here that. Timmy is such a thoughtful young man.”

“Yes he is Darcy, thanks again,I’ll talk to you later.”

“After I get settled,I think,I’ll give Jeff a call and see where that takes me.”

SPRING

Today is the first day of spring, and you couldn’t ask for a better day. The temperature went up to 73 degrees.People were working in their yards, raking up the leaves and things, that old man winter left behind  They were probably blown their last month, when we had some very windy days.Talking about winter,I can’t remember the last time we had a fairy decent winter. Last year was horrible,it seemed once you got to the point of cleaning your snow off of the sidewalk. You would say to yourself not again, the snow did its thing once again. We can’t do anything about it because it was winter, and you can’t fool around with “Mother Nature”.

I  was off from work today,so I got up this morning a little later than I usually do. The  birds  were singing loudly out side they probably knew it was going to be nice. I was happy, because their was a lot of house work I had to do today. I open the windows up to let fresh air in,the air seems to get stale with the windows closed all winter.  The fresh air gave me the incentive to get moving.Because winter time makes me do less.

I finished what I had plan to do today,so before I  start dinner. I gave myself time to read some of my novel that I had started last night.Once I start reading it is hard to put the book down, especially if their is a lot of suspense. I had a hour to relax and read, but I better keep an eye on the clock.

It’s five o’clock so I better start dinner,my husband and son will both be coming in from work.

Where Are They At?

I was just reading a post on one of my yahoo groups. The members their, had a discussion going on about friends, once you reach 50 plus. I thought they were talking about me.Once you reach midlife, your peers aren’t reaching out for you.Don’t get me wrong,I have had, and still do have a lot of friends.I had a few friends in school, and once we graduated everyone went their own way.Nobody stayed in touch, some of us got married, moved away,or left for college. We all had the world in our hands!Your to busy with your own personal life, you forget about your classmates. As they say life goes on!!!Family isn’t the same, sure you can be close, but you want a friend around your own age,to share, differant things like a pal does.Usually as family goes, you here from them, when a member has a birthday, graduations, marriages ect.I enjoy time with my husband, but he doesn’t always feel like going to yardsales, shopping,or just walking. It’s very boring going all by yourself.I have also made a lot of friends, when my husband and I were in the retail business.I’ve still have friends that are my co-workers.Lots of friends on Facebook***who doesn’t?My point is,these aren’t friends your age, that you can relate with. You have to find people your age, that likes the same things that you do. A group called meet-up.com,I heard is great!!!They are suppose to have a list of differant things to do as a group.I”m sure after a while you can meet friends around your own age.I can just imagine a million or more people out their right now, that just want a friend to talk to on the phone. Or go shopping.biking, walking ect.So it looks like were’re just have to go to these events and see if we can meet new friends.

Reading

Ever since I was a little girl. I loved to read, and I still love to read. When my son was a baby,I use to read him stories all the time.I believe it stuck, because to-day he is a avid reader.
No matter where I go,if I have the extra money, I will buy something to read. This is one of my vices, and I love it! I must be old -fashion,but I like the feel of a real book. Lots of people buy e-books for their kindles or nooks, and they probably love reading this way.But give me a real book to read, and I’ll be happier.
