“A Big Surprise “

“Lets go home boy……..the sun is back out. We won’t have to take a bus after all.”

“That was so stupid of me, I wasn’t thinking. The bus driver wouldn’t of left you and your toy on the bus anyway.” ” Daa!” laughed Missy

The sun was shining, the street was wet,the line of trees along the road, there was rain dripping off of the leaves.

Just as they started walking down the street. A car was driving slowly toward them.

The man in the car yelled out at Missy.

“What the hell are you doing with my dog?”

Bernie recognized the voice, snatched Buttons up, and ran up the alley.

“See what you did mister? You scared the hell out of that dog.”yelled Missy

“Don’t worry about my dog. Just mind your own business.”

Missy kept on walking home, she turned around, and seen the nitwit, turn up the alley.

“I hope he doesn’t find him, he seems very mean.” said Missy out loud

Bernie and Buttons heard the car coming up the alley.

Bernie was shaking, he whispered to Buttons, “keep quite, I don’t think, he’ll stop his car,and look behind this dumpster.”

“At least,I hope not! ” sighed Bernie

Just after he said that, a car stopped in front of the dumpster. Someone got out of the car, went over to the dumpster, and threw something in it. Then got back in the car and drove off.

“Darn that was close, Buttons. Come on, let’s make a run to the park, before he comes back.”

After Missy got home, she took a shower, and ate a snack. Her cell phone rang.

She found her phone,in her handbag. It was Lucy. “Yes Lucy!”

“Hello!” “I love you to!” answered Lucy

“Did you have a nice nap?” asked Missy

“No I didn’t.” Bruce used his key to get in. We both had a long talk. He just went down to pick a pizza up.

“Why don’t you come over and have a piece?”

“No thanks!” “Not today!” sighed Missy

She processed to tell her about the ordeal on her way back from her walk.

“Well the man probably found his dog,and that’s the end of the story.” laughed Lucy

“I just hope the little dog is okay.” sighed Missy

Weeks passed, Bernie and Buttons were lucky. One day at the park,a mother and her little son, took a liking to Bernie and Buttons.

The mother said to her young son, burnieandbuttons“we’ve been coming here for two weeks. No one seems to own this poor little dog. Let’s take him home with us,and you can have him,as your own pet.”

“Yes mommy, for my own!” he jumped for joy

Bernie and Buttons were elated.

“Let’s go Buttons! Let’s go!”

” We Found a Friend ”

“My parents divorced, about five years ago. After, I finished my studies at Kent Community College.”

“I decided, to move out on my own. Mom was never home, she was either working, or out with her friends.”

“Most of my friends,where,I grew-up here,in Newlines,Pennsylvania.”

“Either, moved away,or busy starting their own new life.”

“I don’t have any siblings, so this was,the right move for me.”

“I found a spacious apartment, in the town of Veer. Three miles from my hometown.

“Closer to where I’m employed…I work for….. ” Veer Utility Company”.

“Been their since 1990. That’s almost 4 years ago.”

“I do a lot of reading in my spare time. Which is mostly on the week-ends.

I’m single, and not in an relationship. I was seeing someone, while going to college. But,that didn’t have an happy ending.”

“I don’t like to go out by myself. It’s no fun going out to eat, or see a good movie, alone. Unless, of-course, it’s shopping. My co-workers,are either married,or older. With that said, my friendship, stay’s at work.”

“When I woke-up Saturday morning, after going to bed early. I was energized, for the day, after a hard working week. Sunlight flooded the bedroom. All last week, we had April showers.”

“I finished, my usual Saturday chores early. I decided to get dressed, eat lunch, then go outside, for a walk.”

“I’m going to wear my blue walking shorts, and white tee-shirt.

After I get dressed, I’ll called Lucy, maybe, she’ll walk with me.”

I searched in my mid-size, brown pocketbook,for my cell-phone.

“Their it is!”

I picked up the phone, and put in Lucy’s number. The phone rang three times, before she answered.

“Hi Lucy!”

“Hi Missy!” “I was getting ready to lay on the couch for a nap. Bruce was
up to his old shit last night!”

“What part doesn’t he understand?”

“I caught him red handed, with that blonde, hair bitch. He’s been calling me all night, apologizing, for his so called, one night stand.”

“I guess, he wants to come back?” I mumbled

“Yes!” “He thinks,I should welcome him back, with open arms. Because, he was drunk, he’s sorry!” “Screw him!!”

“Lucy, call me back, when you wake up. You’ll have a clearer head.”

“Who’s side are you on?” sigh Lucy

“Good Bye Lucy!”

Lucy and I have been friends, for a couple of years. We first met at a book store.
I was reaching for a book, on the top shelf. She was looking at the books,on the opposite side, of the bookshelf.

Just as I reached for a book, the book slipped out of my hand, and it rested on top of her head.
My brown eyes got as big as an almond, and I could feel heat, coming from my face.

Nevertheless,it startled Lucy, when the book landed on her head.

Then she started laughing so hard, she had tears rolling down her face.

I couldn’t apologize enough.

Lucy just gave me a hug,and laughed. “Shit happens!”

We been good friends, ever since.

We have a lot in common, we are both in our late twenties ,5’5″ tall, shoulder length light brown hair, and single.

I don’t want to tell you, but we aren’t slender, like the models are. We’re more on the chunky side.

Don’t tell Lucy, but she is a little chunkier than me. I love her just the same.

She is like a sister, I never had.

On the other hand,Lucy,has a live-in boyfriend.

Bruce. 6’1″ tall, husky, with short curly dark brown hair, green eyes, and a sloping nose. As you already know,he likes to drink, and make a ass,out of himself.

I decided to take a walk anyway. Let Lucy and Bruce straighten their problem out.
The sun was still shinning, there was a little breeze blowing. Not bad for being in the late fifties.

After walking maybe one mile, I was ready to start back home. The sky was starting to get black, and it looked like it was going to pour again.

Bernie and Buttons was playing in the dog park.

“Look up at the sky,Bernie said, Buttons,it looks like it’s going to rain again.”

“Oh, not again!” “I’m finally dry, from the last rain.” mumbled Buttons

“Let’s make a run for it! Buttons.

Just as it started raining, Bernie grab Buttons by his arm. He couldn’t see in front of him, on account of the pouring rain. Just as he reached the opening in the park. Somebody reached down, and picked him,and Buttons up.

“You poor baby!” said Missy

“Let me get us both to a dry place. Until it slows down.” sighed Missy

“There’s a bus station across the street, I’m gonna make a run for it.”

She held Bernie close to her,and Bernie was just wagging his tail.

Buttons was whispering. “Help,Help!”

Missy and Bernie were both drenched. So was poor Buttons.

Missy put Bernie down, once they arrived at the bus station.

“Give me that bear you have in your mouth”. said Missy

Bernie started to growl at her.

“Okay boy!” as she jumped back.

“You can keep your toy.”

“You stay! I’m going into the station, and ask when the next next bus is due, then I’ll take you to my place. Because your wandering by yourself, and I don’t want you to get run over by a car. “Okay you poor dog.”

She left me and Buttons,in a little hallway, and shut the door.

While Missy was going……

“She sounds like she nice, Buttons….. Look the rain has slowed down,do you want to make a run for it,or stay with this human?”

“She doesn’t like me,she wants to throw me away, like that other person.”

“We don’t have any place to go right now,and she seems like she’s nice.

I’ll make a deal with you…we’ll go with her, but,if she treats us mean later,we’ll get away. I promise,I won’t let her throw you away.”

“Alright Bernie!” I don’t like it, but I’ll give it a try.”

“Here she comes, remember, we don’t talk, when she’s around, deal?”

burnieandbuttons“Shhh!” “Deal!”

The Sister,That I Thought,I Knew (58)

The holiday is over,Tamara and Maxwell went back to their colleges. Everyone had such a good time, talking about all the good times, and some bad times. We also talked about Autumn, when things were normal with her.
Mom couldn’t comprehend, where she went wrong. She didn’t say much more, because Tamara was there. Mom said,”no more talk.” Because she didn’t want to ruin,Tamara’s great spirits.

It’s been three whole years, since that great Christmas. Maxwell and Mary Ann,got married, a year after that holiday. Tamara and Ned,got married last year. So far no babies, they have plenty of time ahead of themselves.

Nobody has heard from Autumn,it seems like she has disappeared, from the face of earth. I call the police every year,to see if they have heard anything from her. Every year,I get the same answer,

”I have your telephone number. If we get any new news, you will be the first to know”.

I just pray she is still with us. I’ll have to be patient, some day I hope to hear from her. I’ll just get on with my life, until then.

I started a new job, this week. My old place of employment, never reopened. I got a new job at Sears in the office. I’m working only two days a week, which is fine for me.
On my way home from work,it was raining hard. I’m glad that the temperature was above freezing, because the ride home would really be bad. This morning when I left for work, the ground was snow-covered. It must of snow some last night. Can’t complain, because it is the month of January,I’m sure we will have a lot more of this nasty stuff.

When I got home around 3:30, I made a meatloaf for diner. I made a big pot of Chicken noodle soup yesterday. Ben and I can have that for an appetizer tonight. It is such a bone warmer,on a night like this.

Ben came home around 5:30,and we sat down to eat.

“How did your day go Faith?

“Great Ben,I’m meeting a lot of new people, and they all seem very nice. Someone is always there to help me,if needed.”

“You’ll be okay,I’m sure of that. The drive home was bad,it started sleeting, and people were driving like idiots. Some are always in a hurry to go no-where.”

“I know Ben,when I left work earlier,it was raining hard. I thought,I might have to pull over, because I couldn’t see out of the windshield, very good. But it started to slow down a little bit, which made me happy.”

After we ate dinner,we both watched a little television, and then we went to bed. Because we both had to get up earlier, than we wanted to. Of course the month of January and February has surprises, from mother nature.
