“What am I Doing Now?

Well I’ll tell you for starters>>>> I just finished writing a 25,000 word, short story. If you haven’t read it yet,it’s called, “The Sister,That I thought.I Knew.” It’s about a family in the 60’s,the scene takes place, in Flint,Pennsylvania. There are four siblings, two boys and two girls in the family. The parents, separate, about a year after the last child is born.

The mother is left with taking care of the children by herself. As the siblings start to become teenagers, things happen, that upsets the mother. While one of the daughters, decides that she is going to do what she wants. Which is the oldest daughter, she feels,if she moves with her father. Who now lives in another state, then she will have a better life,to do what she wants. Little does she know, that is when all her troubles begin.

I’m starting to edit this story, maybe I’ll make it into a E-book,which would be nice.

My next short story, will be about, five-year old twins.

Their names are Shelly and Sherman. The children’s parents are killed in a plane crash. Then, they are both separated, when they are placed in different foster families. No one will tell Shelly, where her brother was placed. Shelly is going to try to find a way,to find her twin.

How can they do this to them? Sherman has always depended on her.

First she loses her parents suddenly, and then her brother just disappears in thin air.

The Sister,That I Thought, I Knew (65)

I better stop daydreaming, and open Autumn’s letter.

Dear Faith,

I received your letter, and you are right,I haven’t been around for Autumn.
Really not for anyone, just myself. But since Ryan came into my life,I now have a new life. We’re getting married, next month.
I’m so happy for Tamara,I wish I was their. On another thought,I probably would of messed up her beautiful day. I’m glad sis, that you,Ben and the whole family was their. Like I said before,I thank you and Ben,for taking her in as your own. Who knows what kind of life, I could have gave her. Matter of fact,I do,I don’t even want to think about it.
Please tell Mom,I’m sorry for everything, and I love her.Tell the rest of the family,I love them also, and I’m sorry.
I’ve been thinking for quite a while, about Ryan and I coming to Pennsylvania. But,it would only open new wounds for everyone, especially for Tamara. Please tell Tamara,I love her,and miss her.I know she won’t understand, but I feel I’m doing the best thing.
This will be my last letter,I don’t want you,or anyone else, worrying about me anymore. Ryan has a better job in the next town,so we will be moving to be near his new job. When we are settled,we are going to get married, and we are going to start a new life for ourselves.

Good By Faith,
Love,
Your sister,Autumn

I put the letter down and cried,I hope everything turns out good, for her and Ryan. I don’t know what to tell Tamara and Mom. I guess,I’ll have to tell them the truth. It’ll hurt feelings, but at least this will help them get on with their own life. By not having to worry about where Autumn is,and if she is alive or dead.
Ben came home from work, and I insisted on reading it to him. He knew I was upset, by the way I looked, with red eyes, and the unhappy look. Ben just sat down and listened.
After I was finished reading the letter.

Ben said, “I think Autumn is making the right decision. She is probably a shame of herself, for what she has been doing, for many years. To come back, and face everyone, especially Tamara. I’m sure Tamara won’t understand, maybe later down the road, but your mother will. She might not like it,but it’ll give her a peace of mind. Knowing that she is going to be alright.”

“Ben do you mind making yourself something to eat? Because I have a lot of phone calls to make. If I wait until later,it’ll be harder for me to do.”
“Don’t worry about me honey,I’ll cook up the best meal, for both of us. You just go and do what you have to do. Leave the cooking to me.”

“Thanks Ben!” I said smiling. “I knew their was a reason I love you.”

The Sister,That I Thought,I Knew (64)

The next morning went fast,I did a couple of errands. I stopped by Mom’s,she needed me to help her with some papers. That she received in the mail two days ago. After I left Mom’s,it was late in the afternoon. I went home and made myself lunch, and took it outside on the patio. Their was a cool breeze blowing, but I loved it. I looked up at the sky,and the sky was a bright blue, and clear, and the sun was just glowing. This is such a relaxing and peaceful sight.

As I was sitting outside,I heard my phone ringing. I went in the house and answered it

“Hi, Aunt Faith,” the voice said.

“Hello Sweetie!”

“I called to say hello,I had a day off from work. So I wanted to make something different for diner, for Ned and I thought,I would try to make your famous Lasagna.”

“That sounds like a great idea,I haven’t make that for a while Tamara.”

“I need your recipe, Aunt Faith,if you don’t mine.”

“No problem, let me go and find it in my recipe box.”

“I’ll hold on.”

“I found it Tamara!”

I gave her all the ingredients, after she wrote it down she said.

“Thanks,Aunt Faith!” “I guess I better go to the market, and get my ingredients.”

“Okay Sweetie!” “Have a great day,and I know,Ned will be surprised,By,By!”

After I hung-up the phone,I checked my cupboard, and refrigerator. To see if I had everything to make Lasagna for Ben and I.
“Great!” I said to myself. “I have to defrost the meat first in the microwave, then,I’ll start diner.

As I was putting the Lasagna in the oven,I heard the mailman, put the mail in the mailbox. I went to the front door, and took the mail out of the box. Their was a lot of junk mail, which I threw in the trash in the kitchen. In between one flier ,that I almost missed, and would have threw. There was an envelope,I looked at the front of it. It was another letter from Autumn. I don’t know how the letter, got mixed up inside the junk mail, but I’m going to be more careful. Before I throw out any mail from now on.

It really seems strange, that Tamara called me not long ago. Then,I just received a letter from her mother.

It is really a shame, that Autumn wasn’t around for Tamara. She has really missed a lot of good memories. Someday,I’ll show Autumn, all of Tamara’s pictures when she was growing up.

Not that I mind, but, Tamara should be calling her Mom,about all the new things. That she wants to try out, beings, Tamara is a new bride. Really, my sister has missed out on a lot. I bet,Autumn regrets how her life was turned-around,after she found out about her second husband Jock.

In life, we all have to live and learn.

The Sister,That I Thought,I Knew (63)

It’s getting near the end of March,it definitely feels like spring in the air. I’m so glad that the winter is over, with the daylight savings time in effect, Easter has just passed us. I know,I feel a lot better, and more time to do things that I want to do.

Like I’m going to take a walk in the park, and then sit on the bench, and watch the children play.

There is a small playground here, where I used to take Tamara a lot. I would sit on the bench, and talk to other parents, that were there with there children. We all had such a good time, and enjoyed each others company.

But now the children are all grown-up, sometime, I see a few of the same parents here. We chat about what is going on with our lives.

On the way home from the park, their was a little boy around four, standing on the side-walk,with tears in his eyes.

“What’s a matter honey,why are you crying?”

The little boy said,”My ball rolled down the street again, and my mother said,if it happened again. She would make me come in the house, and I don’t want to.”

“What is your name, and where do you live?”

“My name is Charlie”, and he pointed to the house behind him.

“Okay Charlie, where is your ball,I don’t see it?”

“It’s across the street,in front of that truck.”

So I walked over their, and picked up the ball, and handed it back to him. He was smiling ear-to-ear.

“Thanks lady!”

As I was leaving,a lady standing at the front door of Charlies house. Opened it and hollered,Thank You.”

I felt good,because I did a good deed today.

When I got home,I went in the back yard. I noticed, my hyacinths and roses were blooming, they both have a great smell.
After roaming in the yard,I looked at my watch, and said to myself. I better go inside and take a shower, and get dressed. Because when Ben comes home from work today. He’s taking me out to dinner, and then to see a movie. We are celebrating our thirty-fifth anniversary. I can’t believe that it has been that long. We have been fortunate,to have been married that long. Of course we have, had our ups and downs, and our blessings.

Ben walked in the door, with something he was holding behind him. He gave me a big hug and kiss.

He said,”Happy Anniversary Honey,” you still look as beautiful,as the day I married you.”

“Thanks Ben!

He then took a bouquet of roses, from behind him,and handed them to me.

“This is for the love of my life!

We both kissed for a long time, while the heat from both of our bodies yearn for more.

Ben pulled away and said,”I’m not going to ruin this night. I’m going to go upstairs and take a shower, and get dress. Then I going to take my gal out on the town.”

Before he walks up the stairs,he smack’s me on my butt.

Ben smiles, with that naughty look, and says,”I’m going upstairs, you better not go anywhere.”

The Sister,That I Thought,I Knew (62)

In the afternoon,I finished up all the things, that I felt like,I needed to do. I decided,I was going to make a Beef Stew for dinner. I gathered up all the things, that I need for the stew, from the refrigerator, put it in my slow cooker. It’ll be ready for Ben and I around dinner time.
I made myself a cup of hot chocolate, and sat down at the desk,in the living room. I started to write when the phone rang. When I started to pick it up,it stopped ringing. I said to myself, must have been the wrong number.

I was thinking, I don’t know, if I should let Autumn know,
that Tamara got married. I won’t be mean,it is her daughter.

Dear Autumn,

What a surprise! You chose to be silence, for such a long time. I was glad to hear from you, though. You finally got yourself together, and met a nice man,and cleaned your act up.
I called Mom this morning, and told her, that I received a letter from you. She was surprised as much as I was. I told her what was happening in your new life. Mom was happy, and very emotional. Because none of us,knew if you were living or dead. Lot of years, and holiday’s went by,without news from you.

What I can’t understand, why you didn’t at least call Mom,or write to your daughter. You left a huge void,in your daughter’s life.

I wasn’t going to tell you, but Tamara is your daughter. Your daughter, got married to a wonderful man,his name is Ned. They are both happily married,it’s a shame you weren’t their, for the wedding.

Maxwell is also happily married,to a nice woman, her name is Mary Ann.

Neither Tamara, nor Maxwell have any children.

It’s a shame, how things have unraveled in your life. But by your letter you wrote me,things are starting to look good for you,and your soon to-be husband, Ryan.
You have my number and Mom’s number, they both are the same. Call if you can,or write.

Love,
Faith

I addressed the envelope, and put the letter inside. I didn’t have any stamps,so I walked over to the post office. Got the stamps out of the machine, and mailed the letter.
While I was out,I stopped at the store to get a half of gallon of milk. On the way out,I ran into Lucy, she told me that her house sold two days ago.

Lucy said, “I was shocked that it finally was sold. My daughter wants me to come and live with her,I’ll probably think about it. But at the same time,it’ll probably be the best thing to do.”

“I’m happy for you Lucy! I told you that it would sell soon”

“You did Faith,you were right.”

“Well you take care of yourself, and when you get time, give my mother a call.”

“Will do! By!
